Psychic Joe Power Meets Critics After Being Branded “Fake”

As reported by the osadvertiser.co.uk’s Tina Miles, popular UK Psychic Joe Power is hitting back at critics after being branded what he feels is a “fake” in TV star Derren Brown’s documentary.

Joe Power has already made an official complaint to media watchdog Ofcom about Derren Brown Investigates – The Man Who Contacts The Dead.

The episode on Channel 4 followed dad-of-four Joe, 43, around Liverpool and West Lancashire as he gave readings.

Programme makers Objective Productions deny the allegations and plan to fight the complaint.

Since the show aired last month, Joe’s family, who live in Ormskirk, also said they have received death threats.

Joe, who is originally from Bootle, said: “Originally I was told the programme was going to be called Derren Brown Unexplained and I thought it would be fair.

“The idea was Derren would observe me and it would give people a fascinating insight into my line of work and the afterlife.

“But I was made to feel uncomfortable from the start. I felt like it was an interrogation. The edited version showed me being abusive, but I wasn’t, I was just very annoyed at what they were doing.

“The programme implied I research my clients before a reading, which is ridiculous, I do hundreds of readings and wouldn’t have the time.

“My fans who trust me will still have faith in me but it has been damaging among the sceptics.”

Derren Brown is a British Illusionist, Mentalist and SKEPTIC as sourced by Wikipedia, Derren has been involved in numerous controversial stunts televised on his various serious, one notably being the Russian Roulette stunt.

Though his performances of mind-reading and other feats of mentalism may appear to be the result of psychic or paranormal practices, he claims no such abilities. Brown states at the beginning of his Trick of the Mind programmes that he achieves his results using a combination of “magic, suggestion, psychology, misdirection and showmanship”. Using his knowledge and skill, he appears to be able to predict and influence people’s thoughts with subtle suggestion, manipulate the decision making process and read the subtle physical signs or body language that indicate what a person is thinking.

Derren Brown Investigates began a run of three programs on Channel 4 on 10 May 2010. During the first program, Brown met with British psychic medium Joe Power.[11] A second program concerns a Ukrainian system of human development that claims to teach people to see without the use of their eyes, and in a third he met a ghosthunter from the US. With these people he discussed their claims to have evidence of the paranormal.

Derren Brown is well known as an Illusionist seeking publicity with foray’s into controversial subjects such as NLP, Russian Roulette, Mind Control and so on making big waves in the news; this latest documentary with Joe Power seems to be the latest controversy from Derren Brown.
